You walk the vehicle with the DMV examiner beside you, point to or touch each component, name it, and say what you are checking for. Items you inspect silently score nothing — the test measures what you demonstrate, not what you notice.
The vehicle you bring sets your licence. No air brakes on it and Oregon prints an air brake restriction; a straight truck instead of a combination and there is no Class A at the end of it. Test in the vehicle you actually intend to drive.
